I guess I should tell those who don't already know. I got a job. Now, I've been known to jinx myself by getting overly excited, so it's best if we just don't talk about it yet. But to wet your appetite I'll reveal that I'll be teaching again in Columbus GA, and I'm satisfactorily convinced that I will not have the same problems I did at the other school. I'll probably have new ones, because this school is going to expect some fireworks. Never a fan of pyrotechnics, I will do my best to dazzle. But I start in January so over the holidays I can do nothing but twiddle thumbs and other appendages and try my best to control the panic attacks.
The other fun was finding a place to live in a new land. None of my family has any experience with Columbus so Mom and I went apartment shopping and found a gem in the paper. Of course when my landlady met me she mistook me for being 22. And I wondered if I really look 22, and then I realized "oh, because i'm such a baby I bring my mother with me to sign a lease" when in fact I just hate driving and she offered.
The place is fabulous. More expensive than I planned, more room than I need, but I've got 10 foot ceilings and freshly redone hardwood floors. Granted I might not be able to afford heat this winter, but I've dealt with that before, so bring it!
My real qualm is that I've lost my magic feather, so to speak. Hinesville was a huge knock to my confidence and any performer knows (teachers included) that you must never show fear. So this whole set up seems like a truly lucky break, but I'm on tinterhooks to see if I can make this elephant fly.
More details as they happen. Until then, merry christmas.
