2006-03-12 - 16:28 The last time I was on a bike Meg and I were exploring nature in Interlaken. And man were we sore the next day. I get the feeling the same will be true tomorrow. Now that I live in a quiet residential area where kids ride bikes and the flat paved riverwalk is about a hundred yards away, I thought perhaps I should get a bike. Mom graciously dusted off her old one in the shed. Spiffy new bikes suggest spiffy riders, and that I am not. I rather like that the bike is at least 30 years old and still has an old Kmart sticker on it. I encountered several racing bikers in their outfits and helmets, and they smiled. But probably because I was a little wobbly this first day back in the saddle The Chatahoochee River can’t really compare to the beauty and grandeur of Switzerland, but riverbeds are flat, and that allows someone like me to go just fast enough for a breeze without the fearful breeze of collisions. I’m not in it for the spandex; if you go too fast you miss seeing all the kids in strollers and dogs on leashes that I look forward to. Besides which there are lots of ducks and turtles on rocks to look at. Today I did about 9 miles, and biking is more work than I remembered. But this means that as warm weather continues and my porch becomes more and more my favorite place to be, I have something else to look forward to for summer.
