We visited a Muslim girl's school in the morning. Not the whole group but Raj was with us. The girl's all wore uniform head scarves and white converse (hmm). The rooms were very plain but with single free-standing desks and chairs and a platform for the teacher. We popped our heads into an English class and some of the group decided to step in and speak with them. Lots of you are the future of your country stuff, and the girls smiled; I don't think they understood much. (surprisingly, the past generation was more focused on english and the young don't speak it very well) It just made me nervous with everyone awkwardly sming and Ernie thought it strange that he and I, the ESL teachers, stood back, but that wasn't conversation. That was gladstanding in front of the principal and Raj's camera.
AFter our tour they served us a snck and tea and gave us a small keris in pewter (stabbing dagger) with the school's name on it. The staff relaxed a bit while we ate and started to talk. I wonder if I should ask them to do a flat stanley project with me.
We had a long lunch break after that and since we'd eaten at the school Ernie and I went to the KL tower (a telecom tower not to be confused with the Petronas towers). They give you headphones and a MP$ player that points out certain buildings whil eyou walk around the observation deck. Well worth the money, but. When we go through security the guy stops me and tells me to open my bags because we're still carrying our ceremonial stabbing daggers that the school gave us. OOpsey. The guard was not nearly as amused as we were.
