We toured all morning; we drove all afternoon to get back to KL. Just enough time to eat dinner and sleep before waking at 4 to take the train to Singapore. It was a lost day in my eyes after a lunch of puffy. . .somethings and a yogurt cup. Unfit for human interactions I just wanted to take my mall food up to the room. So I did it. I took the elevator to the 5th floor and walked toward McDonald's. Packed. Families, kids. I chose my line with money ready and watched as the other lines moved like lightning. I tried to ignore the children shoving past me to say "Mum, I want a Flurry." When you know you're doing something wrong, you try to do it as quickly as possible. I actually feared the rest of the group would see me giving in to my golden arches pleasure. What kind of gourmand would do this?
Finally I step up to order and say my line "Double cheeseburger for take away." (it's a british thing) And the woman says what sounded like "Do you want the meat or the sandwich?"
Perhaps you can guess what she meant, but I was utterly unprepared for such a question. I did the only thing I could--I repeated my order louder. And the woman asked me the question louder. But that's like Sophie's choice. The meat OR the sandwich?
The woman with 3 children waiting beside me explained "the MEAL or just the sandwich, luv. You've got to be very clear with them." So now other folks are involved. She was just trying to be nice, but it's like having to call for a price check when you're buying porn. Money exchanged, burger in purse and I was gone. I probably stepped on a child; I don't know. I just needed to get to my room.
